Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning: The Marietta Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Rotobrush-compatible register and grille cleaning components throughout Marietta, and most register or grille replacements run between $85 and $240 installed depending on size and material. We carry the common sizes on the truck, so in most Marietta homes we can complete the swap the same visit. The typical call starts with a homeowner noticing a register that won’t sit flush anymore, a grille with bent or snapped louvers, or a vent cover so caked with construction dust and pet hair that air barely moves through it.
Here’s what we see most often in Cobb County homes: the plastic clips on the back of a register snap off during a routine vacuuming, or a floor register gets stepped on one too many times and the frame warps. Sometimes the damper wheel seizes up from years of dust and humidity. Whatever the failure, a bad register or grille isn’t just cosmetic. A cracked or loose vent lets conditioned air leak into wall cavities and pulls attic dust into the living space every time the blower kicks on.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush makes several cleaning system lines, and the register and grille cleaning process applies across the aiR+ series, the R5000, and the older R2S and R4S portable units. The register and grille work itself doesn’t vary much by model. What matters is the brush head size on the hose end, because register openings in Marietta homes typically run 4×10, 4×12, or 6×12, and a brush head that’s too wide will gouge the vent edges or jam in the boot.
When you’re looking at your own unit, check the data plate near the power switch. It lists the model number and the year it was built. If the plate is worn off, look at the hose diameter: most Rotobrush residential units use a 2-inch hose, but some commercial configurations step up to 2.5 inches. That measurement determines which register brush attachment you need. On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Rotobrush specifically: Rotobrush-branded register brushes are solid, but we’ve also installed quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers we’ve vetted over years of service calls. The key difference is bristle stiffness. Too soft and the brush loads up in one pass. Too stiff and it scratches powder-coated vent finishes. We match the brush to the vent material, not the other way around.

Signs Your Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning Is Failing
- Airflow at the vent is weak even after cleaning. When a register brush head wears down, it stops reaching the boot walls. Debris stays packed in the corners, and the vent still feels starved. A fresh brush head restores full contact and tells you immediately whether the problem is the vent or the duct run behind it.
- Visible scratches on the register face after cleaning. This is almost always a worn or mismatched brush head. Once the bristles lose their crown, the backing plate starts making contact with the vent surface. On white powder-coated registers, those scratches show up as dark gray streaks.
- The brush head wobbles or vibrates on the hose end. The threaded coupling on Rotobrush attachments wears over time, especially if the brush was ever cross-threaded during a hurried swap. A loose head produces uneven cleaning and can fly off inside a wall boot. That’s a retrieval job nobody wants.
- Registers are yellowing or the finish is flaking. This is less about the Rotobrush tool and more about age and Georgia humidity. Once the powder coat fails, the underlying steel starts rusting, and the register becomes a dust magnet. At that point cleaning helps less than replacing the vent itself.
- You hear a rattle or buzz at the vent when the system runs. A register that’s warped or has a broken damper wheel will vibrate against the boot. It’s a sign the vent is no longer sealing, and in Marietta summers, that’s conditioned air you’re paying to pump into the wall cavity.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Marietta homes, replacing a standard steel or aluminum register or grille runs $85 to $150 for the part and installation on common sizes like 4×10 and 4×12. Larger floor registers, wood-core grilles, or custom-size vents in older East Cobb homes can push that to $180 to $240. You’ll know the exact number before we touch a screw, because Kestrel Air Duct Marietta puts the written price in your hands before any work starts.
That price includes removing the old register, cleaning the boot opening with a Rotobrush attachment matched to the vent size, installing the new register, and verifying airflow at the vent face. If the vent is in a finished floor, we’ll match the existing finish as closely as the available stock allows and tell you honestly if a custom order is the better call. Every register and grille replacement done by our crew carries the same 365-Day Done Right Promise as a full duct cleaning. If the new vent doesn’t sit right or fails within the guarantee period, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Register and grille replacement is one of the safer jobs in this trade, and if you’re comfortable with a screwdriver, you can absolutely measure your existing vent and buy a matching one. The part that trips up Marietta homeowners is the measurement. Registers are sized by the duct opening, not the outer flange. A vent stamped 4×10 usually fits a 4×10 boot opening but has an outer face closer to 5.5×11.5 inches. Buy based on the flange measurement and you’ll own a vent that doesn’t fit.
Where DIY goes wrong is in the boot itself. Once the register is off, you’re looking at years of accumulated dust and sometimes construction debris from the original build. Without a negative-air setup pulling at the trunk line while you agitate that material, you’ll knock half of it into the duct run where it’ll eventually resettle and blow back into the room. That’s the exact problem a Rotobrush system is built to prevent. If you’ve already got the register off and you’re staring at a boot full of dust, call us at (762) 533-6494 before you start scraping. We’ll do it right the first time, with the right tool attached to the right vacuum.
FAQs
A Rotobrush register brush head in regular residential use through Marietta’s cooling season typically lasts 18 to 36 months before the bristles lose enough crown to affect cleaning quality. Homes with pets, heavy carpet traffic, or smokers will wear brush heads faster because the abrasive load on the bristles is higher. We inspect brush heads on every cleaning visit and will tell you plainly when yours is past its useful life.
Most of the time, no. Bent louvers can sometimes be straightened once but rarely sit true afterward, and broken plastic mounting clips don’t glue reliably under the temperature swings of a Marietta attic or crawlspace. If the frame is intact and only the damper wheel is seized, we can often free it up and lubricate it, which is a lower-cost fix worth trying before full replacement. Give us a call at (762) 533-6494 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
A standard register or grille swap takes about 20 to 40 minutes per vent when we already have the right size on the truck, which we usually do. That includes removing the old vent, cleaning the boot with a Rotobrush attachment, installing the new vent, and checking the airflow. Most Marietta homes with one or two failed registers are done within an hour of our arrival.
Yes. Our Marietta service trucks carry Rotobrush register brush heads and common replacement parts for the aiR+ and R-series units. We also keep a range of common register sizes in white, off-white, and brown on board. If your home needs a less common size or finish, we can order it and typically have it installed within a week.
If you’ve got a Rotobrush system and your register or grille situation has gotten past what a quick wipe-down can fix, call Kestrel Air Duct Marietta at (762) 533-6494. Dale Whitmore and our crew will give you a straight answer and a written price before any work starts. We’re an independent service provider here in Marietta, not affiliated with Rotobrush, but we’ve put their equipment through enough real houses in Cobb County to know exactly what it takes to do the job right.
